I’m a Connecticut based artist. I mostly create with oil paint. My work is driven by emotions, sensations and memory, often heavily abstracted and expressionistic. I’m often influenced by my seaside environment, traveling and nearby New York City.
My latest collection has emerged with elements of natural beauty and built environments, often mixed with a sense of history or timelessness, all connected with a deep spiritual essence.
It has been joyful to develop an exploration-driven process. I have found a deeper level of self-discovery by starting these paintings without a preconceived outcome. In each painting, my rough underpainting abstractly triggers a narrative or story to drive its evolution. The subconscious pulls deep emotion and spirituality from this beginning. And from there I stay open to the composition’s progression, unexpected emergence of character, tone and details. Abstract shapes and paint strokes from the first stage of the painting speak to me and guide the painting to express emotional depth and meaning.
This process brings clarity, a sense of contentment, and integration with nature, society and the world overall. These pieces tend to resonate strong emotions with a glazing of hope, leaving me with an evolving view of myself. I’m processing and harmonizing joys and discomforts as part of my ongoing quest to understand the world and my place within it.
Each painting has a unique energy communicated through a focus on movement, light, color and texture. Most of these oil paintings are created with paint I hand mix from powdered pigment.
My lofty goal is for my art to give others a moment of contemplation or evoke emotion that makes them feel more connected to themselves, their spirituality and the world.
